Chinchero hand woven table runner with hummingbird pattern from llama wool, measures approx. 16" wide x 60" long. The central stripe is a very light brown, it may appear off-white on some monitors/browsers. The "Q'ente," two hummingbirds feeding one another, is a symbol for reciprocity, love, and nurturing. It is often featured on blankets from mother to child, or on wedding quilts. It is also a symbol for revitalization, and rebirth for new life. It is one of the most important symbols of Andean textiles. In the Incan Trilogy, a single hummingbird is thought to be a messenger between the three worlds- upper, middle, and underworld.
This table runner also has a hand-sewn "ojos de la princesa" (eyes of the princess) border. Chinchero, located in the Sacred Valley, Peru, is renowned for its fine weaving in the ancient Inca tradition. Chinchero weaving, highly regarded for its exquisite detail, is entirely hand made, the wool is hand-spun and natural dyes are made from various local plants. The cloth is then tightly-woven using a backstrap loom. We purchase Chinchero textiles direct from the weavers at fair trade prices. TR2
